After rape allegations: US star Hammer cancels Broadway role

US star Hammer cancels Broadway role

US actor Armie Hammer now wants to “focus on my health” – with this reason the 34-year-old cancels another role. The background is the investigation of the Los Angeles police against him.

Armie Hammer jumped from a theater role yesterday, Friday, after allegations of sexual assault against the actor became known. The 34-year-old was supposed to take on the lead role in the planned play “The Minutes” by playwright Tracy Letts in New York, but will not be involved in the Broadway production.

“For the sake of my family, I have to focus on myself and my health,” US media quoted a statement from Hammers. A 24-year-old woman recently accused the actor of raping her and abusing her “mentally, emotionally and sexually” between 2016 and 2020. The Los Angeles police are investigating the actor.

Hammer has denied the allegations. His client had always had “completely consensual” sexual relationships, he reported through his lawyer in March. The alleged victim of abuse sent the actor a text message with explicit sexual requests in July last year. This makes her statements appear doubtful.

The actor had become known through films such as “The Social Network”. Hammer was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2017 for his role in “Call Me By Your Name”. Most recently, he had to withdraw from a number of film projects due to several rape allegations and allegations of cannibalism, including the production “Shotgun Wedding” with Jennifer Lopez. His agency parted ways with Hammer in February.

In 2010 he married the journalist Elizabeth Chambers, and the couple, who have since separated again, have two children.
