Tarzan actor Lara dies in a crash
In the 80s and 90s Joe Lara embodies the jungle hero Tarzan in two television productions. Now the actor and his wife have died in a plane crash in the US state of Tennessee. Lara was 58 years old.
In a plane crash in the United States, all seven occupants are believed to have been killed. Among them, the actor William Joseph Lara, known as the Tarzan actor, and his wife, the non-fiction author Gwen Shamlin Lara, are said to have been. The broadcaster CNN and other US media reported, citing local authorities.
A spokesman for the rescue teams said on Saturday evening (local time) that there are no longer any survivors. The Cessna C501 crashed into Percy Priest Lake at noon shortly after take-off in Smyrna, Tennessee, according to a spokeswoman for the FAA, according to CNN. Smyrna is about 20 kilometers south of Nashville, the capital of Tennessee. The plane was destined for Palm Beach International Airport in Florida. The cause of the crash was initially unclear.
Lara, who was 58 years old at the time of the accident, played Tarzan in the TV movie “Tarzan in Manhattan” and the series “Tarzan: Epic Adventures”. He also appeared in several action flicks. In 2002 he ended his film career to devote himself to country music. He leaves behind a child from a previous relationship.
