The leader of the Ukrainian national boxing team Alexander Khizhnyak, who competes in the weight category up to 75 kg, defeated Russian Gleb Bakshi in the final of the European qualifying tournament in Paris.
Note that the Ukrainian won the license for the right to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo when he reached the semifinals. There Khizhnyak was supposed to share the ring with a boxer from Armenia Arman Darchinyan, but his opponent chose to withdraw from the tournament, letting Alexander go to the final.
In the final confrontation, Khizhnyak boxed with the representative of Russia, Gleb Bakshi, who was the 2019 world champion. The fight turned out to be tense and lasted the entire three-round distance, as a result, the judges awarded the victory to the Ukrainian boxer by a separate decision, which will add additional points to him in the international ranking, which has an impact on the draw in Tokyo.
