Because of the Delta variant – Barack Obama’s birthday is smaller

The former US President wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday with almost 500 guests. But after severe criticism, Barack Obama is now rowing back. The celebration should be much smaller.

Actually, the former US President Barack Obama wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday today on a large scale. But now the number of guests has been significantly reduced. A spokeswoman for Obamas announced on Wednesday that the outdoor celebration was planned months ago, taking into account all official Covid requirements. In view of the spread of the Delta variant in the past week, however, the Obamas have now decided to make the festival much smaller and only celebrate with family members and close friends.

US media had previously reported that Obama planned to hold a big party with hundreds of guests on Martha’s Vineyard over the weekend. The news portal “Axios” wrote, citing an unnamed source from the Obamas’ environment, that 475 guests were expected.

The White House was also confronted with inquiries as to whether Obama would not send the wrong signal with a big festival in times of increasing corona infections in the USA. Obama was President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Acting President Joe Biden was his deputy during Obama’s tenure.
