US President Joe Biden has announced new personal details: Victoria Kennedy is to become ambassador to Austria. The 67-year-old was the sister-in-law of John F. Kennedy.

Victoria Kennedy is to become the new US ambassador to Austria. President Joe Biden has nominated the widow of the late US Senator Ted Kennedy for the post, the White House announced on Wednesday. As the new ambassador to Canada, Biden proposed the businessman David Cohen. Lawyer Jamie Harpootlian is to become the new ambassador to Slovenia. The personal details still have to be confirmed by the Senate.

67-year-old Victoria Kennedy previously worked as a lawyer at Greenberg Traurig. She is also co-founder and president of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, which is active in the field of political education. Kennedy has long been campaigning for stricter gun laws in the United States.

Ted Kennedy was the brother of former US President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963, and Attorney General Robert Kennedy, who was also assassinated in 1968. Ted Kennedy sat at Biden’s side in the US Senate for decades. In 2009 he succumbed to cancer.
