Biden wants to end Trump project
Pentagon stops funding for wall on Mexico
It was one of the prestige projects of the former US President Donald Trump. Finally, he also uses the military budget of the US Department of Defense to build a continuous wall on the border with Mexico. President Biden is now ending this practice – he promises an end to the project.
The US Department of Defense has stopped all projects it funded to build a wall on the border with Mexico. Following a corresponding decision by US President Joe Biden, the Pentagon is “ending all border wall construction projects that were paid for with money originally earmarked for other military purposes,” said Deputy Department spokesman Jamal Brown.
The Pentagon has initiated “all necessary measures”. Biden’s Republican predecessor Donald Trump had promised in his election campaign that a wall would be built along the entire border with Mexico. Originally, he wanted to oblige Mexico to assume the cost of building the wall, but failed. After Congress denied Trump the necessary funds for the project, he ordered billions of dollars to be diverted from the Pentagon budget into the construction of the border wall.
Immediately after taking office on January 20, Biden announced the end of the construction of the Wall. The discontinuation of construction projects shows “the continued commitment of this government to defend our nation and to support our army members and their families”.
