Biontech may soon also be injected into children

In order to achieve herd immunity against the coronavirus, children must also be vaccinated. No vaccines are yet approved for the youngest. Apparently that will change soon in the USA.

According to US media reports, the US drug authority FDA could approve the corona vaccine from German vaccine manufacturer Biontech and its US partner Pfizer for children and adolescents aged 12 to 15 in just a few days.

At the end of this week or the beginning of next week, the already existing emergency approval for people aged 16 and over could be adjusted and expanded accordingly, reported the New York Times on Monday (local time), citing federal officials who were not named.

Around a month ago, Biontech / Pfizer had submitted a corresponding application to the FDA. Such an application is also with the European approval authority Ema. The companies had previously announced that a clinical study in the age group from 12 to 15 years in the US had shown 100 percent effectiveness. The vaccination was well tolerated. The side effects would have corresponded to those in the age group from 16 to 25 years.
