Cardboard Matters: David Morrell Becomes WBA Regular Middleweight Champion – No Fight
BOXING

Continuing the column of “cardboard” cases from the World Boxing Association.

Today it became known that the WBA has promoted the “interim” middleweight champion (to 76.2 kg), 23-year-old Cuban David Morrell (4-0-0, 3 KO) to “regular” status.

Which is really surprising, since Morrell not only failed to defend the belt against high-rated opponents, but also managed to miss the weight before his last fight in December, when he dealt with an unknown American Mike Gavronsky in three rounds (26-4-1, 16 KO) …

Fortunately, the organizers from PBC insured themselves, making everything look as if the fighter was going to fight in the intermediate weight. By the way, at the moment the Cuban is ranked 49th in the BoxRec rating.
