Russ Anber, cutman of former lightweight leader Vasyl Lomachenko, believes that the Ukrainian boxer should conduct a trilogy with Teofimo Lopez if he beats the American in revenge.
“I want to see Lopez vs. Haney because there is a title controversy over who owns the WBC belt. Let them figure it out. Then I want to see Lomachenko fight someone I don’t know who exactly. He needs to be allowed to earn rematch with Lopez. …
I am not saying that they should fight right away. They should fight in between. Loma will prove that he is back and worthy of this fight. Lopez, if Haney wins and takes the title, will prove he cleared the division. Lomachenko is the first in line, there will be no controversy over the account or leverage – boom! – All is decided.
What’s the worst case scenario? Lopez will win. He will beat Lomachenko for the second time and will go down in history as the guy who defeated one of the greatest fighters in divisional history. Ideal for him. If Lopez loses, perhaps in close combat, there will be a trilogy. Boxing is built on this. His story is built on trilogies, comebacks and proof of his superiority over his rival. Coming back and winning two fights is what makes boxing great. So I think this fight should be arranged, “- said Russ Anber in an interview with Matt Casavant.
