Sitcom star denies allegations

Three women raise serious allegations against sitcom star Danny Masterson: The US actor allegedly raped them. Masterson again denies the allegations in court. He remains at large but has to hand over his passport.

The US actor Danny Masterson (“The Wild Seventies”) has denied rape allegations against him in court. At the appointment yesterday before a judge, the 45-year-old pleaded not guilty, as the US broadcaster CBS reported. Masterson had already protested his innocence in court in January. At hearings in May, three women had described alleged assaults by the actor. The court then ruled that there was enough evidence to bring Masterson to trial. According to “Deadline.com” the process could begin in November.

The actor now had to surrender his passport, but he remains at large for a million-dollar bail. Masterson was arrested a year ago. The alleged incidents are said to have occurred in 2001 and 2003 at Masterson’s Hollywood home, according to the prosecution. If found guilty, he faces 45 years to life imprisonment. Masterson’s defense attorney is star attorney Tom Mesereau, who successfully defended pop star Michael Jackson against allegations of child abuse in 2005.

Masterson has been married to actress Bijou Phillips since 2011. The couple have a daughter. The actor became known with the comedy series “The Wild Seventies”, where he played Steven Hyde, who always wears sunglasses, from 1998 to 2006. The allegations against Masterson came up in 2017 after the alleged victims in the wake of the #MeToo movement dared to go public. Masterson then lost his role in the Netflix series “The Ranch” with Ashton Kutcher.
