Prominent British promoter Eddie Hearn suggests that the teams of interim WBC lightweight champion Ryan Garcia and WBA Regular titleholder Gervonta Davis are unlikely to agree on their fight anytime soon.
“When you look at Garcia and Davis, one is with DAZN, and the other is with Fox or Showtime. Gervonta will not fight on DAZN, and Ryan, according to his contract with Golden Boy, cannot box on Fox. So what is it – just the desire to make people talk about themselves or is something going on? Speaking of DAZN, would they like to arrange a fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia in April? This is just what you need.
I spoke to Devin the other day and said to him, “We hope to have a fight with Ryan Garcia in April.” He replied, “No chance.” They have an amateur story, of course. Perhaps Devin knows better than me and Ryan doesn’t want to fight him. But this is a great fight.
We need to try to do this fight, and I hope Ryan and Golden Boy will say, “Okay, since you can’t have a fight with Davis at this point, then we’ll fight Davin.” Nobody will complain if they organize a Garcia-Davis fight. But if not, then Ryan should fight Haney, “Eddie Hearn said in an interview with Boxing Social on YouTube.
