Eddie Hearn refuses to recognize Lopez as undisputed champion without a fight with Haney

The boss of the Matchroom Boxing promotion company Eddie Hearn said that he does not consider Teofimo Lopez the undisputed world champion, since his WBC franchise title has not yet received official recognition from other boxing organizations. According to Hearn, in order to become the undisputed champion, Lopez needs to fight his ward, the owner of the usual WBC belt, Devin Haney.

“I know that Teofimo just recently bought a collection of T-shirts with the word ‘Absolute’. I think he needs to return them and change the logo. I told him that, in my opinion, he should not be the absolute champion.

Yes, we also should not be in the position we occupy, but Lopez is not an absolute champion, since other boxing organizations do not recognize the right of a franchised champion to unify titles.

The only way to become the undisputed champion, both in fact and on paper, is to fight Haney. Lopez deserves this title, because he defeated Vasily Lomachenko – number one in the lightweight division, “said Eddie Hearn.

Recall that Hearn also called Lopez a nightmare for his promoter Bob Arum.
