Turkish President Erdoğan blames Fethullah Gülen and his supporters for the 2016 coup. Now the secret service has arrested the preacher’s nephew and brought him to Turkey.
The Turkish secret service caught a nephew of the Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen abroad and brought him to Turkey. Selahaddin Gülen was wanted because he was accused of membership in a terrorist organization, the government-affiliated news agency Demirören Haber Ajansi reported on Monday. It remained unclear exactly where Gulen’s nephew was arrested.
The Turkish leadership around President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan blames Gülen, who lives in the USA, and his supporters for the attempted coup in 2016. The Gülen movement is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey.
Tens of thousands of people have been arrested in Turkey since the attempted coup in July 2016 – and some abroad. More than 100,000 civil servants were laid off. According to official information, around 21,000 armed forces employees were dismissed from the service.
