Foreign shame and “pussy grabber”: Borat is celebrating a comeback

US NEWS

Sacha Baron Cohen did it again. The Briton has once again slipped into his parade role of the Kazakhs named Borat to make the USA unsafe with him. The supporters of US President Donald Trump in particular get their fat off. And that just a few days before the election.

It’s been 14 years since a certain “Borat” set out to expose bigotry and racism in the USA. How should the success streak from that time be topped?

Of course, with the “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” or “Borat 2” for short, which is now available on Amazon Prime Video and opens the floodgates again in terms of coarseness. Donald Trump’s intimate and former mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, feels this like no other.

Monkey or daughter?

The, well, “plot” of “Borat 2” is quickly summarized. In order to rehabilitate himself in his Kazakh homeland, Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) is supposed to give a leading politician in the USA a gift – initially in the form of a monkey. After this had an inglorious end, however, the choice fell on Borat’s 15-year-old daughter Tutar, played brilliantly by the 25-year-old Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova.

Tutar has nothing against the plan, on the contrary. She has long dreamed of being held in an old man’s beautiful cage like “Queen Melania”.

A first attempt to subjugate Vice President Mike Pence aka “Vice-Pussy-Grabber” – while Cohen disguised as Donald Trump threw the actress over his shoulders – fails. So Giuliani is lured into a hotel room as Plan B on the pretext of an interview. He gladly accepts Decoy Tutar’s suggestion to move the conversation to the bedroom. Recordings then show how he, leaning backwards on the bed, sticks a hand deep into his open trousers before the disguised Cohen bursts in and shouts: “She is 15 years old, she is too old for you!”

Giuliani has already commented on the alleged revelations via Twitter. He dismisses it as an “absolute fake”. “I was just about to tuck my shirt into my pants after I took off the recorder,” he said. “At no time before, during or after the interview did I behave inappropriately. If Sacha Baron Cohen claims otherwise, then he is an ice cold liar.”

“Coronavirus or Democrats?”

Cohan’s number one goal is of course Donald Trump’s supporters. Most of them have also heard of his fictional character from Kazakhstan, which is why Cohen can only appear as a borate in a few. But even 14 years after “Borat”, he gets reliable o-tones from them. “Which is worse, the coronavirus or Democrats?” Borat wants to know. “Democrats,” of course, is the answer.

Instead of being Borat, Cohen slips into other disguises for large parts of the film in order not to be recognized. Above all, Maria Bakalova steals the show time and time again and, with her performance as a tutar, provides the sometimes most shocking moments of the flick.

For those who have problems with foreign shame, “Borat 2” will of course be an ordeal again. When he visits the doctor, he asks for an abortion and then naively asks the doctor whether his daughter has “ever put a baby in the stomach”. In a bakery, he and his film daughter ask that “Jews will not replace us” be written with icing on the cake. And looking at propane tanks, he asks the owner how many “gypsies” he can kill off with a canister. The answer: “How many do you have in your van?”
