The singer can now call her own 32 American Music Awards – more than any other artist.
Justin Bieber was allowed to open the evening with his works “Lonely” and “Holy”, and later also appeared with Shawn Mendes and the common single “Monster”. He was also pleased to have received a total of three awards. The native Canadian won in the categories “Best Pop / Rock Artist”, “Cooperation of the Year” and “Best Country Song”. The last two awards refer to Bieber’s song “10.000 Hours”, which he released together with the country pop duo Dan + Shay.
Nominations are based on sales
The Weeknd was recognized as “Best Artist Soul / R & B”. The win in the categories “Best Album Soul / R & B” and “Best Song Soul / R & B” made his musical triple perfect. The nominations for the annual American Music Awards are based on the album sales of the artists, the winners are determined by an online voting of the fans.
The evening was organized by countless music stars. In addition to Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, Lewis Capaldi and Dua Lipa also appeared. The latter was switched on from the Royal Albert Hall in London. BTS, who could look forward to two awards, honored the event virtually from Seoul, South Korea.
Jennifer Lopez and Maluma provided one of the most spectacular moments on stage. The 50-year-old singer, with her new long bob hairstyle, really heated things up with her choreography to “Pa ‘Ti” and “Lonely”. The two are said to have rehearsed 50 hours on their performance, according to the official website of the American Music Awards 2020.
