Im Talk mit Oprah Winfrey
Elliott Page talks about coming out
Elliott Page wants to encourage other transgender people and is now speaking openly with talk show host Oprah Winfrey about his coming out. For him personally, too, this is a decisive and important step, as he reveals. And so the 34-year-old gives another interview.
In late 2020, Elliot Page came out as transgender on social media. Sharing his story publicly was “crucial” for him, the actor explains in an interview with talk legend Oprah Winfrey. A preview clip shows excerpts from the TV interview that aired on Winfrey’s “Oprah Conversations” series.
He had already told his environment about being transgender. However, it took him a moment “to feel comfortable in myself” to share his coming out publicly. However, this was “imperative” for him – “especially in view of the terrible backlash against trans people, especially trans young people.” Sharing his story felt “crucial and important”.
“Feel really present”
Page also comments on his coming out in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine. The “The Umbrella Academy” star is now able to “just exist” – he feels good. “This is the first time that I feel really present with people, that I can just be relaxed and not be afraid,” he explains.
Even as a toddler, he knew he was a boy. “I wrote fake love letters and signed them with ‘Jason’,” recalls the 34-year-old. “When I was little, I was 100 percent a boy. (…) I just couldn’t understand when I was told, ‘No, you’re not. You can’t be when you get older.’ “Now he feels” finally who I am again “.
Back in March, Elliott Page spoke about his first gender reassignment surgery in an interview. “It completely changed my life,” he said at the time about the breast removal, which should have happened before his outing post in December 2020.
