A resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico, returning from a grocery store, found a swarm of 15,000 bees in his car.
“He called emergency services because he didn’t know what to do,” Jesse Johnson, a firefighter and paramedic for the Las Cruces fire department, told the New York Times.
At the time of the incident, Johnson was not on duty, but colleagues asked him to come, since he is engaged in beekeeping in his free time.
“I’m ready to do everything so that the bees are not killed,” he told The Times, adding that he arrived at the scene with a complete set of beekeepers: beehives, lemon grass oil, gloves and protective clothing.
Photos taken by firefighters show thousands of bees swarming around the car. According to rough estimates, there were about 15 thousand of them.
The colony now lives on Johnson’s land.
