Nobody believed that the letter would reach the writer.
A young Harry Potter fan, 6-year-old Veronica Popova, wrote a letter to J.K. Rowling and received a response a few months later. Veronica’s mother told about this on the website of the “Pravmir” edition.
Veronica decided to wish her beloved writer a happy birthday and drew a postcard for her. As the girl’s mother says, she expected that the child’s enthusiasm would quickly subside, but Veronica asked her mother to draw up the letter for real and take it to the post office. The little girl used Google Translate to leave a short message: “To my beloved writer J.K. Rowling.” The letter also included a photo of Veronica with a book about Harry Potter. All that remained was to send him to the castle in Edinburgh – this is the address mom and daughter found on Joan’s fan site.
“Imagine that you were born in the USSR, your parents were born in the USSR, your grandmother bequeathed to you a set in the sideboard. And then your daughter wants to send her homemade postcard to the castle in Edinburgh! ” – writes Veronica’s mother. The postal staff also laughed at Veronica’s letter. Nevertheless, the girl’s mother designed the envelope and enclosed a note in English, in which she congratulated Joan and expressed her recognition.
Three months later, the family received a letter from Rowling. “I sobbed right in the corridor, unable to stay on my feet from an excess of feelings. I squatted down, hugged Veronica and roared. She also roared, trying to jump for joy, ”says the girl’s mother.
The envelope contained a letter addressed to Veronica. In it, Joan thanked the girl, noted that she had very little time to answer letters in person, and said that she was working on the script for “Fantastic Beasts” and a new fairy tale.
“You see, sometimes a miracle can be that you will not let the voice of your ancestors break through in your head and just go with your child to the post office,” summed up Veronica’s mother.
