Former world heavyweight champion Joseph Parker commented on the fight with Briton Derek Chisora, at the start of which the New Zealander was knocked down, but still managed to win after twelve rounds.
“Derek caught me with a good shot. Andy told me to stay focused, because he will go forward from the first seconds. This is exactly what Chisora did. Look, I was a world champion and had a lot of fights all over the world. We only spent six weeks with Andy and we still have a lot to work on and a lot of things to fix. It was hand-to-hand combat. Derek was very strong. We knew what to expect, but he didn’t give up until the end.
Towards the end of the fight, Andy told me that I had to win those rounds, box, move a lot and use the jab. This is what I did. Yet this duel was very close and could go in any direction. Today I am grateful for the result. It was a very exciting fight. We can have a rematch if the fans want to see it and if Chisora wants it too, ”Parker said.
Recall that the duel between Joseph and Derek took place on May 1 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK. Parker won by split decision.
