Kerry looks forward to working with China on climate change

US President’s Special Envoy for Climate Affairs John Kerry said Washington hopes to work with China to tackle climate change, despite long-standing disagreements that have affected bilateral relations.

“We hope we can work with China,” Kerry told reporters during a visit to the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi.

“President Biden made it clear and I made it clear that no other problem in our relationship with China – and there are such problems – is a hostage or a bargaining chip in exchange for what we need to do on the climate,” added Kerry.

Tensions have sprung up in Sino-US relations in recent years due to disagreements over trade, treatment of the Uyghur minority, and China’s actions in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
