Former undisputed world light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu commented on the news of the death of the legendary Russian boxing commentator Vladimir Gendlin, who died at the age of 85 from complications caused by the coronavirus.
“We have known him for a very, very long time, about 30 years. For me, this is a person who was well versed in boxing, lived this sport. For us, for everyone who loves boxing, this is a great loss. The most sincere condolences to his entire family.” – said Tszyu in an interview with the TASS news agency.
Recall that in early March, Gendlin suffered a massive heart attack, after which he underwent two operations on the same day. A week later, he was discharged from the hospital, but soon felt unwell again. At the same time, it is clarified that tests for coronavirus gave a negative result. But on March 26, doctors discovered the presence of antibodies in Gendlin’s body, concluding that he had suffered from COVID-19, which he simply did not notice. The disease resulted in pneumonia, after which on April 4 Gendlin was transferred to mechanical ventilation.
