Seagal joins Just Russia party

Steven Seagal is one of the big action stars of the 90s. As he gets older, his life becomes more and more cinematic. For several years he has been traveling as Russia’s special envoy. Now he has joined the Just Russia party.

The US actor Steven Seagal, naturalized in Russia, has joined the Just Russia party. The Moscow newspaper “RBK” reported, citing Seagal’s spokeswoman. Just Russia is represented as part of the opposition in the State Duma, but like the communists and ultra-nationalists who are also represented by the so-called Liberal Democratic Party, it is considered a party loyal to the system.

According to the spokeswoman, action actor Seagal had previously been a member of the party for the truth of the pro-government writer Sachar Prilepin. This recently merged with Just Russia and another political force.

Cult films from “Nico” to “Hard to Kill”

The 69-year-old Seagal had his heyday in the US film business in the late 1980s and early 1990s with action films such as “Red Alert”, “Nico” and “Hard to Kill”. In it he put his martial arts on display. Seagal still enjoys star status in Russia and other countries in Eastern Europe.

Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, who is also a martial artist, granted Seagal Russian citizenship in 2016. State television broadcast the ceremony at the time. Putin spoke of a “sign of the thaw” in relations between Russia and the United States. Seagal is still an American citizen. He also has Serbian citizenship.

Seagal has even been a special envoy for Russia for several years. His focus is on Russian-American relations. It was only a few weeks ago that it became clear that this does not just mean relations between Russia and the United States. The 69-year-old visited Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and brought him a special gift from Russia – a samurai sword.

An allegedly dark chapter in the author’s biography could never be cleared up: In 2018, the Los Angeles prosecutor rejected allegations of abuse against Steven Seagal due to the statute of limitations. One woman said she was molested by Seagal in 1993 when she was 18 years old.
