The political future of the New York governor does not look bright. He is said to have sexually molested several women. US President Biden called for his resignation. Now he is also threatened with criminal proceedings.
After an official investigation found Andrew Cuomo guilty of the sexual harassment of several women, the governor of New York now faces criminal penalties.
At least three regional attorneys’ offices in New York State, Manhattan, Westchester County and Albany County requested evidence from Attorney General Letitia James for review, according to Wednesday.
In addition, the Chairman of the New York House of Representatives, Carl Heastie, has announced that Cuomo will be impeached quickly. According to experts, it will take several weeks before this could start.
Cuomo has denied allegations
Previously, an investigation led by Attorney General James found that Cuomo had sexually molested former and current employees of the state authorities. Among other things, there were unwanted touches, kisses, hugs and inappropriate comments. In addition, the governor, who has been in office since 2011, created a “hostile working atmosphere” and a “climate of fear” for women, according to the 168-page investigation report.
Numerous prominent politicians from both parties then called for Cuomo’s resignation – including US President Joe Biden. Cuomo rejected the allegations via video message and initially did not address a resignation.
