Robert Garcia explained why he wanted Lopez to win over Vasily Lomachenko
BOXING

Former world champion and now well-known coach Robert Garcia told why he was rooting for Teofimo Lopez in a duel against Vasily Lomachenko. According to Robert, he just wanted the boxing world to have another superstar. So in the end it happened.

“Now Teofimo Lopez is a star. I know Lomachenko. He used to train at my gym in Oxford. I know his manager Egis Klimas very well, I train one of his fighters here, in my gym in Riverside. I spoke to him and we are still good friends. However, I wanted Teofimo Lopez to win, just for the sake of business. Boxing needs superstars. Lomachenko is already a superstar. He’s featured on ESPN for Top Rank. And Teofimo Lopez was then just a young fighter who talked a lot. If he lost, Lomachenko would remain a star, and about Lopez everyone would say that he is just a chatterbox and that he is not so good. They wouldn’t give him the respect he deserves, ”said Robert.
