The actress has repeatedly outraged the public, but learned to admit that she was wrong.
In a new interview with British magazine The Gentlewoman, Scarlett Johansson shared her thoughts on her “public missteps.” The actress recalled how she drew the ire of the audience by playing in the film “Ghost in the Shell” (many viewers then insisted that the main role should be played by an Asian actress), as she stated that she had the right to “play any character” when the audience outraged that she was offered the role of a transgender. She also remembered how she defended Woody Allen, with whom she worked and who continues to be accused of child molestation.
“As a result, every time after such situations I understood:“ Oh, yes I was not myself ”or“ I didn’t see the big picture ”, or“ I was not attentive ”. But I’m still a man. Everyone doesn’t like to admit they were wrong. It gets especially awkward when it goes public. But I can say that I built my career on such ridiculous mistakes, ”said Johansson.
In 2018, Scarlett was offered a role in the film Rub & Tug, where she could play the role of the head of a brothel Dante Gill, who was born a woman, but feels like a man. As a result, journalists and bloggers put pressure on the actress, insisting that this role should go to a transgender actress.
Johansson began arguing with the outraged, stating that “anyone can play.” However, later in an interview with Vanity Fair, Scarlett admitted that she did not understand the problem. “Now I see that I misjudged the situation. I gave my first reaction, but did not understand how the transgender community treats actors playing transgender people. I was uneducated in this regard. I was very worried, I felt like I didn’t hear something important, ”said the actress.
