The athlete appreciated the Duchess’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Serena Williams, 39, is the first guest to guest in a pilot interview for Stuart Weitzman’s Shine Series. In it, she supported her close friend Meghan Markle, calling her “the strongest person she knows.”
Serena’s comments came after Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, gave a candid interview to Oprah Winfrey. During the conversation, the couple claimed that a member of the royal family had expressed “concern” about their son Archie’s skin color even before he was born. Megan also revealed that she was contemplating suicide.
“Megan is a great person, and I think she is the embodiment of strength, the embodiment of confidence, the embodiment of dedication, the embodiment of everything that she has gone through,” said Serena.
Williams added that she “does not know anyone else who could handle all of this on such a global scale.”
Recall, immediately after the interview, Serena also expressed support for Megan on Instagram.
“I am so proud of you for such courage,” the athlete turned to her friend.
The tennis player added that Markle “teaches her every day what it means to be truly noble.” In addition, Serena spoke out against the “yellow press” offending women and black people.
