Stripped, groped, beaten
Keira Knightley talks about harassment
When Keira Knightley goes home, she takes security measures beforehand. Because even the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actress has had to endure all kinds of harassment. It is just “depressing,” she explains.
Like many women, Keira Knightley has had her experience of harassment. In an interview with the magazine “Harper’s Bazaar” she explains that she “doesn’t know anyone” who has not “experienced something like this” “in some way”. The situation is simply “depressing”.
The 36-year-old lists different forms of harassment: “It doesn’t matter whether someone is bare or groped, some guy tells you that he is slitting your throat or slapping you in the face.” That’s why she takes safety precautions when she goes home alone, Knightley explains.
She only really realized that she was not alone in this when other women started talking about the protective measures they had taken on their way home. “I thought, ‘I’ll meet every one of them and I don’t even think about it,” said the actress.
“Not naked in front of men”
Knightley recently commented on sex scenes in front of the camera on the “Chanel Connects” podcast. The Hollywood star made it clear that she only wanted to shoot it when a woman was sitting in the director’s chair. “It’s partly vanity, but partly also the masculine look,” Knightley said, explaining her demeanor. Her body has had two pregnancies “and I would rather not stand naked in front of a group of men”.
Basically, she also prefers female directors when the subjects are female, according to Knightley. She cited motherhood or acceptance of one’s own body as examples.
British-born Knightley began her film career in the 1990s. She became world famous not least for her role as Elizabeth Swann in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series.
Knightley has been married to musician James Righton since 2013. The couple have two daughters who were born in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
