A wildfire raging in the US state of Colorado claimed the first deaths. The Grand Lake Sheriff’s Office, northwest of Denver, confirmed that an 86 year old man and his 84 year old wife were recovered dead from their destroyed house on the edge of the village in the Rocky Mountains. The couple did not want to leave their long-term home despite calls for evacuation on Wednesday, said Sheriff Brett Schroetlin in a video published on Facebook. The so-called East Troublesome-Feuer had spread rapidly to an area of about 761 square kilometers. It is currently the second largest on record in Colorado, according to the Denver Post. Thousands of residents fled the flames, as the newspaper reports. The National Weather Bureau was expecting one in the nearby Boulder for late Saturday evening (local time) Snowstorm that could facilitate the extinguishing work.
