Merkel and Macron: USA and Denmark should clarify allegations of espionage
In the espionage affair, Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron have requested clarification from the USA and Denmark. Espionage between allies was “unacceptable,” said Macron after the Franco-German Council of Ministers in a video press conference. Germany and France expected “complete openness and clarification of the issue from the Danish and American partners,” stressed the French President.
Merkel stressed that her stance on the NSA affair had not changed. She was referring to her earlier statement: “Spying on friends, that’s not possible.”
At the weekend it became known that the Danish secret service allegedly helped the US NSA with eavesdropping on Merkel and other top European politicians.
