Doug Fischer, editor-in-chief of The Ring, spoke in his weekly column about the last weekend’s champion bout in lightweight (up to 61.2 kg) between American Devin Haney and Venezuelan Jorge Linares.
“I think Haney looked sensational for the first eight rounds. I was impressed with his jab and the variability with which he acted with it, as well as the control of distance and accuracy. He was razor sharp, while Linares showed toughness and perseverance (although I expected more skillful boxing from him). However, it was he who made the fight spectacular, starting from the fourth round.
I hoped that Haney would still be able to stop Linares and make a statement. If he had a blow, he would have done it. And this is something that does not distinguish him at all, but it seems to me that in the future he will make up for this deficiency with his skills, technique and understanding of the ring, ”wrote the columnist.
