Hope for NHL successors: Kahun may already be able to play against the USA

NHL successor Dominik Kahun could ideally play against the USA for Germany at the Ice Hockey World Cup in Riga on Monday. “In theory, that is possible. You have to wait and see,” said the sports director of the German Ice Hockey Federation, Christian Künast.

  • “The game against Latvia is more realistic,” said Künast. The German team will play against the World Cup hosts at the preliminary round on Tuesday.
  • The 25-year-old Olympic silver medalist from 2018 traveled to Riga immediately after the playoffs of the Edmonton Oilers on Monday evening in Winnipeg. “I only had minutes to decide,” said Kahun, who arrived in Riga via Montreal and Frankfurt on Wednesday.
  • Kahun is currently in a three-day individual quarantine in his hotel room and can then join the team after negative corona tests. Kahun should only play after three more days of team quarantine.
