Trump will not open baseball competition at Yankee Stadium

President says he focuses on coronavirus, vaccines and economics

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump will not throw the first ball at Yankee Stadium in New York in September.

Trump tweeted Sunday that he will not be able to come due to “increased attention” to coronavirus, vaccines and the economy.

“We’ll do it later this season,” he wrote.

Earlier in his briefing on Thursday, Trump announced that on the first day of Major League Baseball games, August 15, he would come to Yankee Stadium for the first serve.

Trump is trying to convince voters that he is serious about the virus, with briefings and cancellations of GOP conventions that were to be held in Jacksonville, Florida. Florida is currently one of several epidemics in the United States.
