Pompeo and Gutteres discuss Afghanistan, Syria and the decision of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
US State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in New York met with UN Secretary General Anthony Guterres.
They discussed the progress made in the political settlement of the conflict in Afghanistan, as well as the situation in Yemen, Libya and Syria. In particular, regarding Syria, Pompeo and Gutteres spoke about the need for a ceasefire and continued delivery of UN humanitarian supplies.
Secretary of State Pompeo also expressed outrage at the decision of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet to publish a list of companies operating in territories controlled by Israel.
The Secretary of State emphasized that the United States will continue to discuss this issue with the UN leadership and UN member states, “they will not put up with recklessly mistreating American companies and will respond to actions harmful to our business community.”
