Viggo Mortensen’s son convinced him to give up his role as Wolverine in X-Men


The actor said that his son did not like how Wolverine was presented in the movies.

The X-Men movie and its character Wolverine could have been very different. Recently Viggo Mortensen admitted that he refused to portray the famous comic book hero on the screen. In a new episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor revealed that he had come to meet with the director of the film with his son, and he supported his decision to abandon the role of Wolverine.

“I was initially worried about having to play the same character in an endless number of films. I was nervous, so I took Henry with me as my escort and lucky charm, ”Viggo said. His son is a big fan of comics, and he was not thrilled with how Wolverine was presented in the movies. Henry stated that the character from the comics is heavily distorted.

“I gave Henry the script to read and he said, ‘It’s not right, it’s not right. Wolverine is not like that. ” This hurt the director, and for the rest of our meeting, he tried to explain to my son why he took liberties with the image of Wolverine. When we left, Henry asked if the filmmakers could change the script, and I said not likely. But I already realized that I would not agree, because I did not want to play Wolverine for years. But then, after a couple of years, I started filming The Lord of the Rings, so who knows … “
