Good news for boxing fans.

According to BoxingScene.com, the team of American prospect welterweight (up to 66.7 kg) Virgil Ortiz Jr. (16-0-0, 16 KO) has begun negotiations for a fight with compatriot and former champion Maurice Hooker (27-1 -3, 18 KO).

If successful, the event will headline an evening of boxing from Golden Boy on March 27th in Dallas, Texas.

Hooker never made it in 2020. Last December, he kicked off Mexican Yuriel Perez (19-5-0, 18 KO) early in the opening round, closing his only loss to WBC / WBO champion Jose Carlos Ramirez (26-0-0, 17 KO). Ortiz knocked out experienced Colombian Samuel Vargas in the 7th round in July (31-6-2, 14 KO).
