In a new interview, the actress told how and why she went into business.
During the prime of her career, Jessica Alba decided it was time for her to look for new opportunities. In an interview with Romper magazine, the 39-year-old actress-turned-entrepreneur described how her thinking changed after the birth of her first child.
“My mother had cancer at an early age, she was in her early 20s. I was born with a chronic illness. Until the age of 11, I underwent five operations, I was often hospitalized in childhood. At some point, I realized: I want to live, I want to prosper and be with a child. I realized that my health is very important. I wanted my child to be healthy too. It’s hard to be happy when you’re sick. This is what motivated me. I was at the top of my acting career, but I just couldn’t keep doing it as sincerely as before. It wasn’t that interesting anymore, ”Alba said. Jessica is married to Cashham Warren and has three children with him: 12-year-old Honor, 10-year-old Haven and 3-year-old Hayes.
In 2012, Alba founded The Honest Company, a brand that produces environmentally friendly, chemical-free products, including for children.
“After the birth of my daughter, I realized that I wanted something more. But building your brand is damn hard. It is even more difficult to develop it and contribute to its prosperity. It took me more than three years to find partners. Many refused me. I try to grow and develop as an entrepreneur, but here you need very different skills than when you use your fame and influence, write your name on the packaging, choose a design and arrange a press tour, ”said Jessica.
